This phase is all about exploring the wide range of possibilities that exist for your future and trying out some new experiences that will help you work out what’s right for you. We want you to ‘dream big’ and think about what you would spend your life doing ‘if money were no object’. By freeing yourself from all the things that might hold you back you can start to work out what kind of lifestyle and work life you will be happiest with. We’ll help you gain a clear picture of things you want to experience that are related to your dreams, so you can find out whether the things you think you want are as good as they sound, then it’s up to you to get out there and try things.
Your Wildest Dreams What would you do with your life if money were no object? This exercise is all about removing the barriers and limitations that you feel might be stopping you from achieving your wildest dreams. The goal is to build up a picture of your perfect imagined future life. Try to write or draw as much detail as you can. This exercise is about allowing yourself to believe in possibilities, and will help you understand a bit more about what drives you and the sorts of things you might want to try or experience.
Your Lifestyle As a follow-on exercise to Your Wildest Dreams, Your Lifestyle asks you to storyboard a day in the life of your dream future self. This allows you to imagine your future in more detail and as a result you can extract more information. Where would you be living? What would you be wearing? What time would you go to work? By striving to answer these questions, you can gain a better understanding of what you want your future life to be.
Summary – Your Future Plans By this point in the process, you have gained an understanding of your current self and imagined a potential dream future self. The next step is to begin to put in place the steps you feel you would have to take in order to close the gap. You have unique opportunities while you’re a student to test out some of the things you might want to do in the future, and spending time to think about what it is you really want will help you take the steps you need to do to achieve your dreams.
