An article in the British Psychological Society’s flagship publication, The Psychologist, this month highlights the international research being carried out by two of the academic staff in UWTSD’s Psychology and Counselling department.

Cover of the May 2023 issue of the publication The Psychologist; the title is 'Gender: how stubborn are the stereotypes?'

Dr Paul Hutchings and Dr Katie Sullivan were invited to write the central theme to the May 2023 edition which is distributed in print to 50,000 BPS members and read online by many more.

The article, ‘Gender: How stubborn are the stereotypes?’ introduces the work the authors have carried out with the international Towards Gender Harmony project, as well as their own research carried out within Wales.

Dr Hutchings said: “It is great to be able to address these issues in a format such as that provided by The Psychologist to be able to talk about the research and issues of gender equality to a wide audience. Stimulating the debate and ideas beyond journal publications is an important part of what we should do as academics and we look forward to leading this debate, in Wales and beyond.”

The international research has produced a number of scientific journal articles and the current research in Wales includes contributions from students in the Psychology and Counselling department.
