Graduating students throw their mortarboards in the air outside Cardiff Cathedral.

In her speech to graduates, Professor Evans said: “I’m very pleased to welcome you to the University’s Graduation Ceremony in Cardiff.  This is a time of celebration, to acknowledge achievement and to thank all those who have supported our students. Graduation ceremonies also provide the opportunity for family and friends to share in the celebrations and for their significant contribution to the success of those graduating to be recognised.

“Many of the programmes delivered at our Cardiff campus are vocational in nature and are offered in collaboration with employers. Their focus is on ensuring that you gain the skills, knowledge, and attributes that you require to make a difference in your chosen career and to our wider society.

“Your success in achieving your award is the result of your hard work and commitment. You can be proud of your achievements and remember that the University is here to support your continued professional development.”

Standing in front of other senior UWTSD figures, the Vice Chancellor Elwen Evans doffs her cap during the graduation ceremony.

Among those graduating today are Theatre, Music and Media, Advanced Vocal Studies as well as Early Years Education, Leadership and Management and Professional Policing Practice.

A cohort of the University’s flagship Degree Apprenticeships programme are also graduating. Bridget Mosely, Head of UWTSD’s Apprenticeships Unit said: “I’m delighted to be celebrating our apprentices’ graduation today.  It has been a fantastic to watch them progress in their careers and to share their success with their employers.”

Many of the graduates have been studying part-time and in the community including the Leadership and Management: Skills for the Workplace programmes and Early Years Education allowing students to access learning in place that is convenient to them.

Natalie Macdonald, Programme Director for Early Years Education said: “It is always such a proud moment for us to see our students graduate and to have the opportunity to celebrate their success with them. The commitment and achievement of the students is truly inspiring, and we believe in the power of taking education out to students in the community. For our team in UWTSD, ‘transforming education, transforming lives’ is not just a statement – we see it through our incredible students and graduates every day.”

Bronwen Williams, Academic Director of UWTSD’s Blue Light Academy said: “To be able to celebrate our students’ achievements at the graduation ceremony is fantastic and we’re all delighted to celebrate their hard work, determination and commitment to the role of police constables and to congratulate them on being trail blazers of this new route into professional policing.“
