UWTSD Early Years Education and Care Senior Lecturer plays key role in Wales’s contribution to SEEPRO-3 report
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) reaffirms its pivotal role as a leading provider of early years education and care qualifications and training, both locally in Wales and on an international scale.
A recent testament to this leadership comes from Natalie Macdonald, who served as the Wales perspective contributor for the UK Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) workforce profile in the latest edition of the Systems of Early Childhood Education and Professionalism in Europe (SEEPRO-3) report.
This report details the early childhood education and care workforce across 33 countries, recognising the importance of the ECEC workforce, SEEPRO-3 includes ECEC Workforce Profiles and Key Contextual Data for each of the 33 countries.
Natalie Macdonald’s leadership in providing the Wales update for the UK workforce profile, coupled with her review of key contextual data, demonstrates her expertise and dedication to advancing the early years sector.
She is the Programme Director for the innovative fast-track flexible learning Early Years Education and Care degree, and has been instrumental in graduating hundreds of students across UWTSD campuses in Wales and Birmingham. Natalie is also Assistant Director of the Childhood, Youth and Education Discipline with a key role in developing new research and training opportunities to upskill and develop the professionalism of the early years education and care sector. These include an innovative suit of training packages linked to the role of the adult in young children’s exploration, curiosity and concept development.
Natalie said:
“As an early years team, we are passionate about showcasing and supporting the early childhood education workforce in Wales and beyond. Being part of the SEEPRO-3 project allows us to ensure Wales’s early years workforce and sector developments are included on an international stage.
“At UWTSD, our courses are designed to support the personal and professional development of the education and care professionals through a range of flexible options. This includes evening study to ‘earn while you learn’ and postgraduate study. We also use our own research linked to policy and practice to ensure we can develop innovative training opportunities and ensure our degree programmes are current and support early years workforce opportunities and challenges.”
UWTSD Early Years Lecturer and Admissions Tutor, Dr Glenda Tinney, said:

It also highlights Natalie’s significant leadership and research expertise in the sector. UWTSD is a leader in providing workforce development in the Welsh sector via our flexible evening degrees, day time provision, and innovative training packages and thus Natalie was well placed to lead the Welsh contribution within the SEEPRO Report.”
