Winners of Yr Egin Adventure Film Festival announced.
Canolfan S4C Yr Egin is pleased to announce the winners of Yr Egin Adventure Film Festival competition.
Over the last two days, this ground-breaking festival has celebrated the best of the adventurers and content creators who show the world of adventure at its best. It has succeeded in igniting the creative imagination of the attendees and has helped nurture the talents of the future.
One of the most exciting aspects of the festival for aspiring adventurers this year, whether filmmakers, students, schools, creative individuals or community groups, was the opportunity to submit new work in Yr Egin Adventure Film Festival competition.
Films were submitted to a panel of judges specialising in the field. The three judges, Matt Green, film director and owner of Summit Fever Media; Sioned Thomas, Swansea Bay Region Outdoor Activities Development Officer; and Ryan Chappell, S4C Diversity, Sustainability and Social Purposes Leader, enjoyed judging all the films and agreed that the standard of the competition was very high. The main themes of the competition were Spirit of Adventure and Responding to Climate challenges and there were 8 prizes available.
Sioned Thomas said:
“Thank you very much for the privilege of judging these films. I really enjoyed watching them all, and it’s really exciting to have so many talented people with us in Wales who want to, and are able to, make films like this! They are all so different, and by watching them I have learnt a lot, had new ideas and discovered new places to visit! ”
Matt Green added:
“What a great choice of films! I enjoyed watching all of them and the competition was of a very high standard. Congratulations to everyone. Keep it up!”
The three judges decided to award the following:
Best artistic film - Summiting The Mind - Alexander Langley - Former UWTSD student
Best Soundtrack - Wild Florida’s Vanishing Call - Alycin Hayes
Best Film made in Carmarthenshire - Cold Water Ice Swimmer, Mathew Jenkins by Darcey Jenkins - Coleg Sir Gâr
Best Film in Wales - The Bontley’s Marathon - Gareth Gwynn
Best Film Beyond Wales - Future of The Fjiords - Miriam Hughes
Best Story - Summiting The Mind - Alexander Langley - Former UWTSD student
Best Overall Film - Summiting the Mind - Alexander Langley - Former UWTSD Student
Special Recognition - The Threat to Our Coast by Sophie Hollis - Coleg Sir Gâr
Gareth Gwynn, winner of the award for Best Film in Wales, said:
“Thank you very much to the festival for the award. Creating the film was a very personal process for many reasons, not only because I was raised in ‘Bont’ but because I got to know the people in the film over the last few years and run with them. These warm characters with their passion for the sport and towards their fellow runners shine above all else and I am pleased that that has been recognised. ”
Gruffydd Roberts, Yr Egin Events and Projects Co-ordinator said:
“The films received for this competition have been of a very high standard, and being able to provide a platform and an opportunity for new and experienced filmmakers to share their work and develop their craft is something we at Yr Egin are very proud of. I’ve really enjoyed co-ordinating the festival this year, and I’m already looking forward to the next one!
Some of the above films including Summiting The Mind, The Bontley’s Marathon, The threat to Our Coast and Cold Water Ice Swimmer - by Mathew Jenkins will be screened on the last day of the festival on Saturday between 11:45 and 13:00.
